Why You Should Book Your Newborn Session Early: My Booking Process Explained

Capturing the early days of your child’s life is something I am very passionate about. As a newborn photographer in Madison County, I’m here to help you freeze time—capturing those sweet little details before they grow and change in the blink of an eye.

A common question I get is:

“When should I book my newborn session?”

The answer? As early as possible—ideally during your second trimester.

Let me explain why early booking is so important and walk you through my simple, stress-free booking process.

Why Book Early?

Limited Availability

Newborn sessions are scheduled within the first 5–14 days after birth, when babies are still sleepy, snuggly, and more likely to settle into those adorable poses. I only take a limited number of newborn clients each month to ensure flexibility for early or late arrivals—so reserving your spot early guarantees space on my calendar. This is not to say that newborn photos aren’t possible after 14 days because it is still possible! Babies just tend to become less flexible and alert as they grow so some poses may not be achievable.

Planning Ahead Brings Peace of Mind

Pregnancy comes with plenty of to-dos. Booking your session in advance means one less thing to worry about. You’ll have time to ask questions and choose props and colors that coordinate with your home or your baby’s nursery.

Access to the Full Experience

My studio is well stocked with props, outfits, headbands, swaddles, etc. to create beautiful setups. You won’t have to bring much other than the baby and essentials. You’ll also have the option to bundle your newborn session with a maternity or milestone package. Maternity sessions even includes access to my client closet.

My Booking Process

I’ve made my process as smooth and simple as possible for busy parents. Here’s what to expect:

1. Inquire

Send me a message through my website or social media. I’ll check my availability around your due date and answer any questions you may have. I usually book your session a weekend or two after your due date and if we need to move the session up or to a later date we will work that out.

Reserve Your Spot

Once you’re ready to book, I’ll send a booking link that includes:

• A $75 retainer invoice
• A brief questionnaire to get to know your preferences
• A contract to review and sign

Schedule the Session After Baby Arrives

Once your baby arrives, just reach out within the first couple of days. We’ll finalize the session date based on how you and baby are doing, typically when baby is between 5–14 days old.

Enjoy a Relaxed, Baby-Led Session

My sessions are held in my home studio in Anderson, Indiana. These sessions are calm, baby-led, and tailored to your style. All you have to do is relax and enjoy these sweet moments.
